Our Blooming Story

Bloomlier began in a small garden in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands where a single rooted dahlia cutting unfurled into a bloom that stopped the street. That moment—simple, stubborn, and quietly transformative—still guides everything we do. Based in the Netherlands, Bloomlier grows and ships premium rooted dahlia cuttings to gardeners across Europe, combining Dutch horticultural craft with a love for varieties that perform equally well in the garden and the vase.

What we do

We specialise in rooted dahlia cuttings: young shoots taken from healthy mother plants that already have roots and are ready to grow. Rooted cuttings establish faster than tubers and preserve the true colour and form that seeds can’t guarantee. Our focus is on supplying gardeners, florists, and small-scale growers with dependable, beautiful plants that flower in their first season.

Our philosophy

Select the most beautiful varieties that can be used as both cut flowers or left blossoming in the garden. In the Netherlands—where horticulture is both craft and culture—we curate varieties by how they perform, not just by pedigree. We favour strong stems, generous heads, and colours that read well from the canal-side to the kitchen table. For the 2025–2026 season we’re proud to centre our assortment on Bloomquist varieties, such as Bloomquist York, Bloomquist Tory P, Bloomquist Mojo, and Bloomquist Alan.

How we propagate and ensure quality

Propagation at Bloomlier follows careful, repeatable practices. Cuttings are taken from healthy mother-stock and tubers that show no sign of disease such as gall or viral issues. Before shipping we inspect every cutting for firm stems, glossy leaves, and a clean root ball with fine, white roots. Quality control is non-negotiable: only vigorous, disease-free cuttings leave our nursery.

Packaging & shipping

Situated in the Netherlands, we use reputable postal services to protect young plants for their journey across Europe. We ship rooted cuttings between March and June each year, when warmer weather reduces the risk of freezing nights or days. Each cutting is gently potted, cushioned, and boxed so it can travel for up to one week to ten days without damage. Boxes are ventilated and labelled with clear care-on-arrival instructions, and we plan routes to avoid exposing plants to extreme temperatures.

Our promise and practical note

We stand behind every plant we send. Cuttings are taken from healthy mother plants and tubers and inspected for disease. That said, photos on websites show a variety at its best—actual plants may vary in size, bloom stage, and timing. If a cutting arrives damaged or fails to root despite following our care guidelines, contact us and we’ll offer troubleshooting, replacements, or refunds according to our guarantee.
